SAFETY MEETING
We had a full house for the Safety Meeting on Wednesday, January 29th. It was encouraging to see so many participate.
Detective Steve Etter told us how a Neighborhood Watch program would work. Basically, the community would be divided into 4 parts with a Block Leader for each group. If a resident expected to be not home for a period of time, the Block Leader would be notified and the members of the group would be aware to watch for any suspicious activity. The Newport Police Department would support us, but the program would be administered by our own residents. The website for the National Neighborhood Watch is www.nnwi.org.
Some suggestions for home safety include: letting your neighbors know you will be gone, install motion lights, have house lights on timers, have an alarm system, have window stickers for Neighborhood Watch or an alarm system (even if you don’t have an alarm system). If a faulty alarm goes off repeatedly, you could be fined for the police having to come and investigate.
Other suggestions are marking items with a number like your drivers license number. Police can trace that, but not your Social Security number. Photograph or videotape items. Write the name of the item with the model and serial number and keep that document and pictures in a safe place.
NEW FEATURES
Please check the newsletter for new features. Our Sunshine Committee sends cards each month to those who are ill or need cheering up. The rest of us usually don’t know who needs our concerns. For this reason, we will be including a list of those who have received cards the previous month. It may prompt you to send a card or check up on those you know.
Our advertisers are the ones who make our newsletter possible. Their business cards are included each month in the newsletter. However, it would be nice to know a little more about each one. Starting this month, we will be feature one of our advertisers with information about them and their business. It may encourage us to support them more. This month we are featuring Hairs the Thing, RoxAnn Huseman, Owner.

LONGVIEW HILLS SOCIAL CLUB
Sue Wilson reported that the ovens in the clubhouse cannot be recalibrated. We would have to rewire to make a difference. A sign will be posted advising users how to adjust the heat.
Betty Scott reported that decals to be placed on resident’s cars would cost $225.00 for 1000 decals. A vote on these was tabled until after the safety meeting.
Calendar items were discussed. No determination was made regarding a ladies coffee. Betty Hanus is taking care of the bridge players schedule and more players are needed. After discussion, it was decided that future Social Club meetings will be on the third Monday at 10:00 AM.
Sue Wilson requested a donation from the Social Club for the RSVP Senior Companions. A donation of $25.00 will be made.
Discussion was held regarding the new residents at the park and Bill Hanus suggested a party to introduce the newcomers to long time residents. The party is scheduled for Friday, February 14th at 5:00 PM. Each attendee is asked to bring hors d’oeuvres and whatever they would like to drink.

We would like to thank Bill Holt for keeping us informed of changes in the community by providing us with updated directories. He also keeps track of our activities and provides us with a calendar for our newsletter each month. His expertise on the computer is a great asset to our community with the classes he conducts and his willingness to help those who have a computer problem. Thanks Bill.
Another computer guru who deserves our thanks is Ron Thomas. He created and maintains our LVH website. HAIRS THE THING
I moved from Portland with my husband, Dennis, to our new home in Longview Hills 5 years ago in May. I also purchased Hair's The Thing Salon in Newport.
I have been a hairdresser for 33 years and have been very blessed to have a profession that I still enjoy getting up and going to every day. I truly enjoy people and making them feel good about themselves. I understand what it is like to live on a budget, so therefore, I offer prices that are affordable, including Senior Citizen Days on Tues. and Sat. Our objective is to keep prices affordable and still give quality service to our clients. There are two other hairdressers in my salon, Patty Well and Kate Golden, and. we will be welcoming Bryana Lokkeberg to our team in March. YOUR STREET LIGHT
Two years ago, LVH management declared that the street lights in front of our homes are the responsibility of the homeowner and any repairs were up to us. At that time, our manager gave each of us a list of the parts and part numbers for these lamps. These included the globe, globe base, and hold-down hardware. One part not included in the list was the photo sensor control. The following is the information on that part:

PLEASE don’t try to replace this yourself. The lights are hooked into the house power in many different ways and you may end up with your shoes melted to the street.

LOOK AT THE BOXES
Please check your mail boxes to the left of the bulletin board. The number for your box is your lot number and is located inside the top edge of the box. Community mail sometimes remains in these boxes all month. We will start removing newsletters not picked up by the 15th of the month and placing them in the extra newsletter box in the top right corner of the bank of boxes. Thanks for your cooperation.
SATURDAY BREAKFAST
After a long period of "no breakfasts," the Simon Crew will be hosting a breakfast for residents and their guests on Saturday, February 15th from 8:00 to 10:00 AM at the clubhouse. Due to the Seafood and Wine Festival going on the last Saturday of the month, it was decided to move the breakfast up one week. The menu will include fresh fruit, scrambled eggs, ham slices, rolls, coffee, tea, and juice.

Another thing we would not like to see go by the wayside is the Ladies Coffee. Jean Hart will be hosting a coffee on Tuesday, February 25th at 10:00 AM. It is a great time to get together and get acquainted or catch up on what is going on in the community. Hope to see you there.
