LVH CITIZEN OF THE YEAR
At the Ice Cream Social held at the clubhouse on Sunday, September 14th, Social Club Chairwoman, Donna Talarski, recognized a number of residents who have volunteered their time and talents, over the past several years, to make our community a better place to live. Those who have served in any capacity in the Social Club, Yard Work Crew, Safety Committee, Safety Patrols, as Block Captains of the Neighborhood Watch Program, on the Security Light Detail, or on the Newsletter, were thanked for their numerous contributions.
Then, the first annual LVH Citizen of the Year Award was given to Ron Thomas for his many hours of unselfish contributions to the betterment of our community. Ron was recognized for, among other things, setting up the LVH Website, planning and implementing the red safety/security light program, and initiating the yard work crews to help residents who needed, but were unable to perform, necessary improvements to their properties. Ron also worked on the Safety Committee and the holiday night time patrols. For all of these contributions, plus many more not named here, we say congratulations and all offer a sincere thank you!
Next year, all residents will be offered the opportunity to nominate persons they feel are worthy of the award for their contributions to our neighborhood. The person receiving the most votes will be the recipient of next year’s LVH Citizen of the Year Award.
SOCIAL CLUB
September was the first Social Club meeting with the new officers. Chairwoman, Donna Talarski, did an excellent job of chairing the meeting. She was gratified to have 23 people in attendance. Hopefully, even more people will become involved in the coming year.
At the beginning of the October meeting, Manager, Larry Henson, will be present for a short period to clarify some park rules. This is in response to questions that have already been asked and not an open question and answer session. We appreciate his willingness to come to the meeting to clarify these issues.

SOCIAL CLUB
Reports were given on several successful events, including the Second Time Around Sale, the Ice Cream Social, and the Golf Outing and Barbeque.
The shredder from Thompson’s Sanitary, for documents containing personal information, was returned to them full.
The Labor Day Patrols went well. Plans are being made for Thanksgiving Patrols. Volunteers are needed.
Dan Wilson reported on the need to repair or throw away and replace chairs in the clubhouse. Money has already been funded for this.
Having a Welcoming Coffee for Newcomers was suggested by Betty Owens. The Welcoming Committee was asked to consider this.
A once a month get together to celebrate birthdays will begin in January.
The October Breakfast, to be held on Saturday, October 25th, will be hosted by the Scotts, the Shimeks, and the Lunds. There will be a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board.

We would like to offer a hearty welcome to some new neighbors. Jeryl and Hazel Chase will be moving into the park the first part of October. They are moving here from Susanville, California to 608 NE 58th Court. Hazel is the sister of one of our newer residents, Cathy Smith. We’re glad you’re here!

LADIES COFFEE
Don’t forget to attend the Ladies Coffee, on Thursday, October 30th at 10 AM. This is a wonderful opportunity to get acquainted with other ladies in the community.
GET YOUR SHOTS
Flu and Pneumonia shots will be given Tuesday, October 28th, between 10:00 and 11:00 AM at the clubhouse
This service is provided by the Lincoln County Health and Human Services Department.
Bring your insurance cards and they will bill Medicare, Medicaid, Lifewise, and Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Oregon. Otherwise, flu shots are $18.00 and pneumonia shots are $28.00.

AARP DRIVER SAFETY CLASS
On October 6th and 7th, and again on November 3rd and 4th, there will be a class in driver safety for those over 55 years old. The class presents basic driving information concentrating on changes older drivers need to keep in mind.
Classes are $10.00 and are held at the Marine Science Center in the old library from 8:30 AM - 12:30 PM. To register, call 541-574-2684.

SPECIAL THANKS
There are very special people in our park who are willing to help in time of need and we want to thank them.
On August 19th, Sidney went to the Emergency Room here and they life-flighted him to OHSU where he had 3 brain surgeries on the next 2 days. They had to remove a build-up of blood from blood leaks around his brain.
When we came home, I had to go back to work and there were 2 days the doctors said he couldn’t be alone. Lyn Olson came one day to stay with him and brought lunch. On another day, Chuck and Loretta Bridges stayed with him. We appreciated that so much.
Jackie and Ron Thomas brought food and also recruited others to do the same. We received meals from Kathy Furgason, Nancy Lee Moore, and Marilyn Kalar. We thank all of them.
A great relief came when Kathy Furgason volunteered to do the newsletter for September. Sue Wilson helped with printing and placing them in the boxes. I don’t know what I would have done without them. Thank you so much.

SECOND TIME AROUND SALE
August 30, 2003 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM
With a good number of residents participating in our big Second Time Around Sale this year, it was a big success. As usual, there were a lot of folks who arrived early, and it seems that many were still coming in the late afternoon. When Dan Wilson and I put up the Highway 101 signs at 7:20 AM, there were already shoppers in the park. Personally, it was the best sale we had participated in since the beginning of sales. Thanks to Pat Barker for the helpful map of all the sale locations - except for one late entry.
If you folks want to continue with the sale, please step forward before the next year, as this is my last year participating. All signs are stored in Irene Repetski’s garage. We placed flyers at Safeway, Fred Meyers, JC Market, Courthouse, Senior Center, Swimming Pool, Food Share, and Lincoln Council on Aging.
Friday night’s 5:00 PM preview was Weischat’s idea. The balloons were purchased at WalMart (80 of them) and each seller received two for each lot. The string was a donation.
The balloons and string were placed on the pool table on Monday before the sale for participants to pick up. The sign-up sheets were posted three weeks before the sale date.

SENIOR COMPANION PROGRAM
Samaritan Health Services is looking for Senior Companions to help seniors and younger disabled neighbors in Linn, Benton, and Lincoln Counties.
A Senior Companion performs such services as helping clients stay in touch with family and friends, providing companionship, transportation to the grocery store or doctor’s office, assisting clients to live independently with dignity, and just being a friend.
Senior Companions receive a tax free hourly stipend, supplemental liability insurance, mileage reimbursement, pre-service and on-going monthly companion training, yearly driver safety training, and meals.
A Senior Companion must be over 60 years of age, have a yearly physical evaluation, have TB testing and flu shots.

Don Newman reported that donations are now coming in for these charities we support. The report will be compiled when Don sees what has come in the last few days and he will give us a report on it for the next newsletter. We appreciate all the hard work Don does so that we may share with others.

The Shimeks, the Scotts, and the Lunds will prepare their special Southern style breakfast for your dinning pleasure. The menu will consist of biscuits and sausage gravy, scrambled eggs with ham, pancakes, juice, and fruit. All you can eat for $2.50. How’s that for a bargain. See you there!
