SOCIAL CLUB ELECTION
During the June 2004 Social Club meeting, a nominating committee will be formed to submit names of residents willing to serve as officers of the Longview Hills Social Club. The Social Club must fill the following positions in order to remain in existence:
Chairperson
Co-Chairperson
Secretary
Treasurer
If officers are not elected or appointed, then the current funds in the LVH Social Club treasury must be donated to a charitable organization. Please start talking to residents to see who would be interested in serving and then come to the June meeting to submit their names.
Due to business conflicts and personal reasons, I will not be able to serve another term as Chairperson. I appreciate the support I received this past year.

NEW EDITOR NEEDED
For the past year and a half, I have been your newsletter editor. Since beginning as editor, I have started working outside my home and my hours have been increased twice. It is important for the editor to attend the Social Club meetings and my work has prevented me from that at times.
I have appreciated all the support I received this 18 months. Those who wrote articles have been most cooperative. Also, I will never forget Kathy Furgason doing the September newsletter when Sid had brain surgery.
This will be my last issue. It is my hope that someone who doesn’t work outside the home will take on doing the newsletter. I will be willing to work with someone to get you started. If you would like to do this, please contact me or Donna Talarski.
There is more to consider than it is nice to have a newsletter. We have sponsors who pay for the newsletter and add to the LVH treasury. If we don’t have a newsletter, money would be refunded and we would find it difficult to get sponsors again. We are counting on someone to step forward.

BREAKFAST
Breakfast on Saturday, May 22 was a huge success! A "new breakfast crew" consisting of Donna and Ben Davi, Alice McClellan, Donna Talarski, Ruthanne Carson, Kathy and Bill Ferguson, Buzzy Byerrum, Jim Dunlap, Vern Lund, Bev and Dick Garvey, and Ron and Jacky Thomas served 68 residents and made a net profit of $113.00 for the Social Club coffers.Thanks to all who helped.
LONGVIEW HILLS
SOCIAL CLUB
Ron Thomas gave a report on the house numbers. By trial and error they have come up with a satisfactory method of applying numbers which can be read day or night by emergency personnel. Volunteers will do the application of numbers on light globes in front of each house. A decision has been made to paint the posts and add numbers to the globe. Donna Davi will collect $5.00 from each household who wishes to have this done. A sign up sheet will be put up in the Club House.
The question was raised about continuing Easter Bunny candy. Candy is already purchased for 2005, but will not be funded after that date. The Easter Bunny is encouraged to come to a meeting of the Social Club with a proposal for purchase of candy for 2006.
Charging for dinners at the Club House was discussed. The owner extends $100/year for two large dinners - Spring and Winter. There are no funds for Pot Luck Dinners. Therefore, there will now be a charge of $1.00/person.
Club House Kitchen Chairwoman, Kathy Smith, has resigned and Assistant Chairwoman, Sue Wilson, will continue this job.
The Father’s Day menu will be hot dogs and buns. Motion made by Ben Davi, 2nd by Ron Thomas. So passed.

WELCOME COMMITTEE
The Welcome Committee greeted several of our new neighbors in late April and early May.
Carol Deslippe has become an Oregonian again after living in California for awhile. She is busy getting settled into her new home at 538 NE 60th Street, Space 86. Her phone number is 265-2624.
Jack and Betty Bush also came to us from California having found Longview Hills on the Internet. Their new home is at 6085 NE Evergreen Lane, Space 105. Their phone number is 265-5294.
Dick and Lois Billingham found us via the Internet too, coming here from the Reading, California area. Their new home is at 618 NE 62nd Street, Space 143. Their phone number is 265-4676.
Denise Hanson is now residing at 519 NE 58th Street, Space 31. Her phone is 265-9475. She is already well acquainted here, having lived up river at Toledo for many years.
We would like to welcome these new residents to our community.
If you know of anyone moving into your area, please contact Jack & Ginny Scherer at 265-5529 and pass the information on to them. If you are new to the park and have not received a visit from the Welcome Committee, please call and let them know.
FOOD SHARE
Food Share of Newport has had a great month. The local LVH people contributed 206 pounds and the Salvation Army totaled 36 pounds. This past month Donna Talarski, Bill and Betty Hanus, and Jack and Ginny Scherer sold 583 Izzy's coupon books. This allowed Longview Hills residents to donate $2100 to Food Share.You all did a great job. Thanks so much. The US Postal Service collected a total of 9,640 pounds of canned goods in the annual Food Drive. The LVH Social Committee has done a great job for Food Share.

NOTE: For those who may be wondering why we are talking about being short of funds and are contributing so much to Food Share, it was a condition of selling the Izzy’s books that $4.00 had to go to charity and $1.00 to the Social Club for each book sold.

GOLF ANYONE?
The Peggy Rariden Memorial RSVP Golf Tournament will be held on Friday, June 11, 2004. This is for the benefit of RSVP and players are needed.

HISTORIAN SCRAPBOOKS
At the birthday party on Sunday, May 16th, there seemed to be quite a bit of interest in the LVH past and the pictures in the scrapbooks, which I have kept for several years. If any of you have pictures you would like to share, that were taken at occasions where all residents of our park were invited, I would like to have copies of them, so they can be added to our history book. Please put them in my box (#58) and I will see that they are put in the pages of the scrapbook.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Ron Thomas, along with the assistance of Charles Burke, has secured LVH a spot in front of Wal-Mart on Saturday June 5th from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM and then again on Saturday June 19th from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. We will need 2 people per shift to work 2 hours each or 4 people per shift to work only 1-hour shifts. Sign Up sheet is posted at clubhouse. This is your opportunity to help sell the Izzy’s Books. We still have approximately 350 books remaining.
We also need a sign explaining what we are selling. If you have been saying I wish there was something I could do to contribute, here is your opportunity. If you are good at sitting, talking, and taking money this job is for you.

TAIL WINDS
Betty Colgrove, a representative from the Life Flight Network, will present information on June 15, 2004 @ 2:30 PM at the Longview Hills Club House. Life Flight is Oregon’s premier airborne medical transport team. They are equipped with helicopters and airplanes for hospital-to-hospital transfers. Ms Colgrove will come prepared to answer your questions on transport cost, Life Flight membership cost, insurance coverage, Medicare coverage, and cutbacks, when transport is needed.
ST.JUDE’S RECYCLED
CARD PROGRAM
A letter was received from St. Jude’s Ranch for Children concerning the recycled card program. The letter is posted on a bulletin board in the clubhouse. Many of us here at LVH have contributed our used greeting cards and they were much appreciated. However, they have received more than one million parcels of mail containing used cards from all over the nation! They are "buried in cards" and cannot afford to handle any more. If you are presently saving cards for St. Jude’s, please read the letter on the bulletin board for more information. Thanks go to Marlene Crites who has collected our cards in the past and turned them over to Thompson's Sanitary for mailing. Marlene and Thompson's did a great job!

POP CORN
At the last Social Club meeting the subject of pop corn was raised. In 2002, a pop corn machine was donated to the residents of Long View Hills. There seems to be an idea that anyone can come into the club house and take bowls, baskets, pitchers, etc. of pop corn home. Also, it has been taken for granted that there is an unlimited supply of money in the treasury to purchase the popcorn, butter, oil, containers, etc.
In the time the machine has been in our kitchen, $474.05 has be spent on these items, plus maintenance. We are asking that you refrain from taking large containers home. Our treasury has been slowly drained of money and we do not have the means of raising money to add to it. Please consider this before you take containers home. If this continues, we might have to remove the machine. If anyone has any ideas how raise money, please come to the next Social Club meeting. It will be on next month’s calendar. Thanks.
