President's Message
September saw the start of my year as President of the Social Club. I take it on with some trepidation.Will I be able to hold he club together, and who will be at the meetings?
I need all of your help to carry this off. So whether you are a new resident or an "old" new resident, I encourage you to attend the Social Club meetings.
If you see something that needs to be corrected, or changed please call me at 574-8217.

Social Club
September 17, 2008
Meeting was called to order by President Charlotte Paulsen at 4:05p.m.
There were 10 residents in attendance with no new residents.
The minutes of July 21, 2008 were approved as read.
ACTIVITIES REPORT:
There is an oil painting class being offered and the cost will be $40.00.
Sat.,Sept. 27th, will be the breakfast offered by the C.E.R.T. club. The October breakfast will be done by the Davi team.
Also on Sept. 27 there will also be a jewelry party.
Sept. 30th Ladies Get Together - omelets will be made in zip lock bags.
On Oct. 15th there will be an Italian potluck
Oct. 31st, 6:00 pm (Halloween) will be a snack party with costumes.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
There was no CERT report.
The Social Club is still in need of a secretary. A librarian and historian are also needed.
NEW BUSINESS:
Remember flu shots will be coming soon.The date will be announced at a later date.
Carmen, Ellie and Ginger will be working on a Christmas family.It was suggested that maybe we can get a family from "MY Sisters Place", or Samaritan House.
The fall dinner will be Nov. 8th, sure to mark your calendar.
The activity cards are now on sale for $25.00.What a deal!Please read the poster on the club door.
Ginger Dale will check into where we can get some more garage door openers.
After some discussion, it was decided to honor our past presidents with a plaque similar to the Fishing Club's plaque.
I would like to thank all those who helped make the Social club a success last year.I will continue to need all your help this year.

Charles Currey decided to move on to bigger and better things recently. Your contributions to the newsletter will be missed, but we understand your motivation. Good luck in your new endeavors, Charley. The Social Club will try to continue to keep everyone up on the news from the hill. If you have news please put info, questions, complaints, compliments(HaHa), questions for management, etc in the Editors box on the bulletin board in the clubhouse. We want this to be a community newsletter.
Have you seen the Wolf tree? He looks over the whole park and protects us from harm. But beware, don’t make him mad, or he will turn into a werewolf!!!
Would you like a remote gate opener??
If so, you may contact the Overhead Door Opener Co. in Eugene. The phone number is 541 686-8144 and the contact person was Curtis when we purchased the others a few years ago. Hopefully they will be able to send you one or if a group are interested, it may lessen the cost.
Librarian Wanted
If someone out there would be interested in being the librarian for the clubhouse please contact Charlotte Paulsen. In the meantime, if you return or donate a new book to the library, you need to file it on the shelves, hopefully in the right spot. There won’t be any boxes to put the returned books in until we find a new librarian. Please do your part and put the books you use away!!

Meet some of your new neighbors!!
LeeAnn Blumentstein is the daughter of longtime residents, Lee and Ruth Watkins. Many of you may not know that Lee was the first Park and Genereal Sales Manager back in 1989 when LeeAnn’s parents were the fourth residents to move in. Ruth and her cousin, Gladys Weaver, cleaned all of the new houses after they were finished. There is a plaque on the wall in the clubhouse that is named after LeeAnn’s folks and is called “Watkins Hall”. Check it out!
LeeAnn has moved into the park to live with her folks and help take care of them as they become older. She lost her husband , her job and both of her beloved dogs within the last four years, so LeeAnn has opened her own pet and house sitting business and is a member of Pet Sitters International. She has been a lifelong animal owner and lover and always preferred animal sitting to babysitting when she was growing up. She has always wanted to make a living working with animal and believes everything happens for a reason and now she is fulfilling her dream - being near her parents, living at the beach and opening her business. Life is wonderful!
If you would like to discuss pet sitting or house sitting with LeeAnn, give her a call at 541 574-4484. She will discuss her fees and come to meet you. There are flyers in the clubhouse.

Karen Wimer is another new resident and is the daughter of Lee Anne McCready. She recently moved here from Concord, California to be with her mother. Karen is starting up a Housecleaning business in the area, so if you are in need of help with the housecleaning give her a call at 541 265-9592 or 925 787-8940(cell #). She will come meet you and give you an estimate. Karen says she is not the fastest cleaner, but she is very thorough. Her mother heartily agreed!
Let’s all welcome these two to our community and support them in their business adventures, as well as all of our advertisers.
Who’s that running around on the Gator??
Meet Frank Landry, he is a cousin of the former coach of the Dallas Cowboys, Tom Landry. He came to the area 29 years ago from California, worked at fishing and in the pulp mill in Toledo. Frank lives in South Beach with his wife of 37 years, Naomi. He has 2 children, a son who lives in the area and a daughter who lives in Newberg and attends George Fox College. He also lives with a dog named Daar, he’s a Heinz 57 variety, but mostly Bull Mastiff (big dog) and a cat named Everest, who is a Siamese seal point. He says he watched LVH from the beginning and is happy to be working here! Welcome Frank, and it’s nice to see you running around and taking care of our

THE LINE
We had our breakfast meeting at Agate Beach Golf Course on September 4th. A sure sign that summer is over was evident with the increased number of members we had. It was nice to see a “full house”. At our regular meeting on September 18th we were treated to a presentation by John Sanchez on the “Life Cycle of Salmon.” John is a member of CCFF and has professionally studied the elusive salmon for several years and gave a surprisingly interesting and, not so surprising, informative program. We enjoyed his talk so much we made him a member of our Club. We also welcomed a new member in Jack Prince. Jack is also a member of CCFF. Both of these gentlemen will be welcome additions to our meetings.
It seems we have had to do this all too often as of late, but we must make note of the passing of one of our members, Dick Garvey. The meeting will be a little quieter and a little empty without Dick. Our best wishes and love go to Bev and her family and we want her to know how much Papa Pickle will be missed.
I was thinking this morning that it is fall already, summer is gone (we didn’t seem to have much of one this year), so there will be no more fishing, hiking, camping, etc. Then I remembered John is spending time fishing on the Metolius River in Eastern Oregon. and Wayde is fishing today out of Tillamook with Brian and Frank. We live in Oregon so, of course, there is still fishing, hiking, camping and sooooo much more! Get out and enjoy it if you can. If you can’t, come and spend an hour with us for breakfast at the Agate Beach Golf Course on October 2nd at 9:00 a.m. and listen about everyone’s fish stories and adventures. What is up with the “dumping area”?
There are no dumping areas in Longview Hills.some months I'vebeen trying to convey to persons using the area along NE 57th as a place to dispose of organic cuttings,concern over their letting cuttings build up instead of keepingthe area leveled. Also some peopleputting plastic containers, bags and other assorted items (gutters, downspouts, old yard ornaments, etc.) there alongthe yard trimmings. After several months of asking users to keep the area from becoming unsightly and continued removal of the "other stuff" by park management,resident living in the area complainedthe mess.the area was immediately posted and flagged off with warnings to any who may choose tothe area. Park managementit's effort,to clean up the area.
Is there ever going to be something done about the state of the carpet in the clubhouse?
If you are asking about new carpet that does not seem likely.
If you mean will it be cleaned at sometime in the future that will be yes.
Possibly one of the most frustrating things about the community centerthe total lack of respect for,who use.
The carpet can be professionally steam cleaned on a Sunday and by Tuesday of the same weeklook as if it't been cleaned for years.
Special compliments to Frank Stout and some other residents who joined him tosteam cleanerthe central area of the community center some time back, they did ajob and it was greatly appreciated.only took aday or so however andplace lookedthan before these valiant men's.
If anyone has a suggestion on how to get residents to take pride in their community centerwould be appreciated.the community centera major re-siding this summer and will doubtless have other issues to be dealt with in the future. Last year several doors were replaced and the deck was worked on. Strangely the newdoors seldom get closedwell as the window in the craftand/or computer roomduring the stormy season. Groups using the dishwashers either fail to unload the dishes or completely ignore loading them and/or turning them on once they have been loaded into the washer. People getting popcorn refuse to pick up what they have dropped on the floor from the kitchen to thedoor etc, etc, etc.
Benjamin Franklin once said, "Any fool can condemn, complain and criticize and most fools do".
And
Albert Einstein who said, "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over but expecting a different result".
Recently the park lost a few longtime residents, Frida Holt and Dick Garvey passed away in September. Our condolences to their spouses and families.
The Breakfields returned from summer in Alaska, I suppose the snowbirds and the geese will be heading South soon.
Don Newman reports that “This past month I have seen the most items ever, dropped in the Food Share and Salvation Army boxes. One Box weighed in excess of 100 pounds. THANK YOU ALL!!!”
The Golf tournament in September had to be cancelled due to lack of interest. Where are all of the golfers around here??
Overheard in the clubhouse was discussion on the difference between a pig and a hog. According to Science Fact Finder on the internet the difference is - In the US, the term “pig” refers to a younger domesticated swine weighing less than 120 pounds, and the term “hog” refers to older swine weighing more than 120 pounds. In Great Britain all domesticated swine are called pigs.
Jack and Ginny Scherer were back in town for a visit and stayed to play Pinochle with the old group.
