Minutes - Social Club - February 18, 2009
Meeting was called to order by President Charlotte Paulsen at 4.p.m.. There were 15 people in attendance.
Minutes of the last meeting were ready by Secretary, Jeannine Roederer and approved as read.
Bob Dean, read the treasurers report and it was accepted as read.
Ron Thomas gave us his report on CERT activities. Quite a few of the CERT members attended a training session where they received recertification on AED and CPR training. The trainer donated “mouth protectors when using CPR, and she will give us training aids for future practice with the AED. Ron also, spoke about the upcoming event here at LVH entitled “Oregon Shakes.” This program should be attended by everyone in this complex because it can give you an idea of what can happen in an earthquake.
Another subject discussed at the meeting concerns our FRS radios. We want every one to start getting on the NET every Sunday night at 7 p.m. You can not know if your equipment is working properly or if you remember how to use your radio if you don’t get on the air and practice.. . So every Sunday try to remember to turn on your radio and get on the net.. The “net control operator is lonely when we get so few remembering. So try to not forget the net. A reminder will be placed on the club house door each Saturday.

1. March 11 - Spaghetti dinner $4 - drinks at 5:00 & dinner at 6p.m.

THE LINE
We had our monthly breakfast meeting at the Agate Beach Golf Course on February 5th. A special member, Phil Reed, was there to explain about a very special gift he was donating to the LVH Fishing Club.Special as in some member, whose name was to be drawn that morning, would be the lucky recipient of a fishing trip with Phil!Our favorite waitress, Mary, drew the lucky ticket from the can and newcomer Matt Matheny proudly displayed the winning ticket stub.Needless to say, he was very excited.We would all like to once again thank Phil for his generosity.Ellie LeMaster was introduced as the new LVH Fishing Club “Beach Mistress”.She has graciously offered to be in charge of our quarterly Beverly Beach cleanup.Thanks for stepping up, Ellie.It’s people like her and Phil Reed who help make our Club so special.At our general membership meeting on the 19th of February we had a special program with Ryan Miner.Ryan’s programs are always greatly received and enjoyed by our membership.He showed us many lures and gave several “hints” on ways to catch fish.As a strictly non-professional fishing person, I liked the pink puff balls with the shiny silver stuff (but what do I know).We also heard about Matt and Bill Furgason’s fishing trip with Phil, which was a great success.Thanks again, Phil.
There is an LVH Fishing Club Road Trip coming up on Thursday, February 26th in which we will head for Tillamook and tour the Cheese Factory, the logging museum and the sporting goods store.It will be a fun trip.If you aren’t able to join in the fun, watch the LVH Fishing Club website or check out the wall at the Clubhouse for details and photos.These are always fun trips.
It seems there are always things going on with our active Club.Watch for e-mail “blasts” with updates and info, and check out the website and the wall in the Clubhouse for items of interest, important dates and photos of our “adventures”.We have gotten off to a great start so far this year and it only promises to get better!See you all around . . .

FREE ADVERTISING???
If your club, church or organization is sponsoring an event and would like a little free advertising, why not put something about it in our newsletter. We are all looking for things of interest to do in our community. Just drop a note in the editor’s box in the clubhouse and I will try to get it in the next newsletter.
Looking for Things to do in March???
On March 9th local geophysistKay Wyat from Little Whale Cove will give a presentation at the clubhouse about earthquakes in our area. She will be bringingseismographs and other aides. She will tell us the science involved with today’s earthquake predictions for the
I have known Kay for awhile and can assure you that we are in for an interesting and factual presentation. So come on down.. Drink coffee and eat popcorn..
Soon the CERT team will be going to homes that sign up for a session in what to do to make sure your water heater water is saved after an earthquake. They will come and show you exactly what to do... The 50 gallons or so of water in there could insure survival for many days. How do you get it out? How do you keep it from siphoning back into the main line under the street? They will show you how. How to keep the heating elements from burning out when power returns... They will give you the hands on that you need to know.
The power coming to your home could burn down your home when it comes back on after a prolonged outage from earthquake. Most of you think you know how to turn off the power to your home and turn it on... And you would be wrong! That little piece of information could be the difference between having your house burn to the ground after you have already lived through one disaster. (it has to do with the meter outside of most homes). CERT team members will walk you through the process.
The team feels that after a large quake you will be safer in your vehicle parked on the street than in your home. You will weather aftershocks there in relative safety but if the power is off how do you open your garage door? CERT Team members will come to those that are signed up and show you how to do it....

New TV
Gloria Mazzeo donated a TV to the clubhouse. It's a beauty. Very Large and clear. It has been hooked up and the VCR and TV channels work like a champ. However, the DVD does not work at this time. I think we need a tv, audio cable or an Stv cable .. We are working on it. Thank you Gloria for your generosity... I'm sure there will be many good times and fun ahead for the park.
This TV was extremely heavy and so was the old one. Both were moved by the 5 men in the park who we count on to help with so many things and most of you never know just who they are. You see the new item in place and start using it without thinking much about who the people were behind the scenes. They never ask for kudos from the rest of us and would probably be embarrassed to receive them but, it is fitting that you all know who they are and thank them the next time you see them in passing.... By then they will have done another couple of projects that you may never hear about I'm sure. Our community is blessed to have Wayne Hill, Wayde Dudley, Bill Furgason, Frank Stout and Jim Rose. They are our community treasure.... Praise them a lot.
Bobby Dean is already thinking about the Sports night at the clubhouse... Guys gather your beer and we will be making hot dogs and chips.

John Spangler is excited about the many videos the Fishing Club has that they can now watch at meetings.
