NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH

Members of the Neighborhood Watch Planning Committee are: Jacky Thomas, Alice McClellan, Wayne Hill, Liz Hill, Joy Newman, Jean Hart, Jim Rose, Bonnie Rose, Ron Gibbs, Irene Repetski, Arlene Klish, and Ed Simon.
The NHW planning team has been meeting every Friday since March 3rd. The priority for this team is to organize and create the path for beginning the NHW at Longview Hills.
Jim Rose and Ed Simon met with the Police and Fire Departments to get their input and support. Both groups praised and supported our efforts.
Jim Rose and Jacky Thomas made 3 different grids of the park and the planning team decided on the one that divided the park into 16 areas. Jean Hart did the coloring for the charts which were displayed at the St. Patrick’s meal.
We had good response and now have coverage for all the grid areas. Ron Gibbs searched the Web for some information on Block Captain items of identification, such as hats, banners, vests, or patches. At this time, we have not found what we are looking for.
On page 6 is a memo from Ron Gibbs with more input. We thank Ron for his memo. This kind of enthusiasm will make us a success. Ron is a very active member of the NHW planning team, as well as a Block Captain.
We still need of a Block Captain Coordinator. It is not a hard job and it certainly is rewarding knowing that you make a difference and contribute to the success of the NHW.
Thanks to all who willingly took on this project and SPECIAL THANKS TO RON THOMAS for his relentless pursuit of a way to make our park more secure with his innovative creations for security within and outside our homes.
At the Block Captain meeting on March 25th, packets and assignments were handed out. Discussion was held on the lighting system Ron Thomas has designed for our outside street lights. You will be hearing more on this in the near future.
We are ready to begin our Neighborhood Watch Program. If we all work together, we will succeed in having one of the best security programs in the area. Thanks for your cooperation.

Arlene Klish

LONGVIEW HILLS
SOCIAL CLUB

A call was received from Bill Holt stating that he would no longer be doing the directory. He has been keeping the list up-to-date for the past 5 years. He suggested it could be turned over to the Welcome Committee. They could ask each new resident if they wanted to be included. There are currently 3 people in the park who do not wish to be on the list. No one from the Welcoming Committee was present and no action was taken.

Charlene Shimek demonstrated the use of door jammers she had purchased and provided information on where to obtain them. (See page 6.)

The Neighborhood Watch Planning Committee is now meeting each Friday. There will be need for 16 Block Captains and extras for back-up. Several have already volunteered. If you are interested, please contact Arlene Klish.
(Note: We now have enough Block Captains. We do, however, need a Block Captain Coordinator.)

Don Newman asked if bazaar items he has been storing could be donated to a charity. Sue Wilson and Betty Scott will meet with Don to go through the items to see what should be saved and what should be disposed of.

Information above was from the minutes of Cleda Hampton, Secretary.

WELCOME COMMITTEE

There was no report from the Welcome Committee this month.
If someone new moves into your neighborhood, please contact Jim and Bonnie Rose or Bill and Kathy Furgason. They are members of the Welcome Committee and would like to help make new residents feel a part of our community.

THANK YOU

Thank you to all who contributed Labels and Box Tops for Schools. Sam Chase School appreciates getting them.
Gladys Hull and Elaine Lund

I would like to thank everyone for their cards and all the food that was brought to me. They haven't found out yet why Jack has lost so much weight and he has had just about every test under the sun. Anyway, we hope we can bring him home soon. Thanks to all of you.
Bette Owens

SUNSHINE

Cards were sent this month to Lorraine Spencer's Mom when she died and to Dawn Way, the nurse.

Used exercycle with timer preferably.

FOOD SHARE REPORT

Thanks to all who donated so generously to Food Share. This month, LVH donated 86 pounds of food for the less fortunate. It is most appreciated by all those who enjoy it. The donation box is located under the table to the left of the mail slots, if you wish to contribute.

LADIES COFFEE

There is a new Ladies Coffee sign-up sheet on the board. All ladies coffees will be "NO HOST" unless there is a special person wanting to be Hostess. Those duties would be to supply the refreshments and make the coffee for that specific day. Then, see that the dishes and silverware are put into the dishwasher and put away after washing.
It works out well if two or more host the coffee. It is not a lot of work, but is easier if there is more than one person.
Please give this some thought ladies - and please come the last Tuesday of each month at 10:00 AM and visit with us. This is the only time we see some of our resident ladies. Our next coffee is the 29th of April.
If you have any questions regarding the coffees, please call Jean Hart at 574-6846.

NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH MEMO

A Neighborhood Watch Planning Committee has been formed with volunteers whose only agenda is making Longview Hills a safer place to live by neighbors looking out for neighbors, both in terms of home security and general welfare.
The results so far have been to "block" the park into 16 manageable sections, each with a volunteer Block Captain.
In the near future, the Block Captains will be in contact with each home in their responsibility area. They will explain the program and answer any questions you might have. They will also assess to what degree each homeowner resident wishes to participate. Some may be a solid participant, with an arrangement of looking after the homes of others in their absence and/or be cognizant of individual needs and the same being returned. Others may want a more passive role, and yet others may feel they don’t need the Neighborhood Watch. Details will be shared as they unfold.

ST. PATRICK’S DAY PARTY

A good time was shared by more than 50 LVH residents at the corned beef and cabbage dinner on St. Patrick’s Day.
Many thanks to Irene Repetski and her helpers (Shirley Parsons and Ron Anderson) for cooking all the delicious corned beef and the others who helped with cooking cabbage, potatoes, and carrots to go with it. Also special thanks to all who helped with the set up or stayed around after to help clean up.
Everyone attending brought (pre-dinner) snacks or desserts and we all enjoyed a great Irish evening.

(Note: Please claim lids and a knife left after the St. Patrick’s dinner.)
